The High Court is set to hear a motion to dismiss the case against former FijiFirst Member of Parliament, Vijendra Prakash, next Thursday. The session was convened today under High Court Judge Pita Bulamainaivalu. The initial hearing was scheduled for today, but Siddharth Nandan, who is leading the case, was not present. Lawyer Jagath Karunaratne represented him and requested the court to postpone the hearing to Thursday.
The Attorney-General’s Office was represented by Yovin Naidu, while Seini Fotofei appeared on behalf of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. The court approved the request and instructed all parties to submit their documents by September 4.
Last year, Prakash was found guilty of unlawfully receiving $33,670 in parliamentary allowances after an eight-week trial. He faced charges from FICAC for providing false information to a public official and for obtaining an unfair financial advantage. The case will resume next Thursday at 2:30 pm.
