The High Court has granted bail to Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute in Navuso, Nausori. The case was heard by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe this afternoon.
Justice Rajasinghe established strict bail conditions for Tikoicina. He is prohibited from contacting prosecution witnesses and must refrain from any criminal activity while on bail. Additionally, he is barred from entering the Technical Institute.
State Counsel Zenith Zunaid informed the court that Tikoicina had admitted to his friend, a fellow student at the Institute, about the incident. Tikoicina had previously pleaded not guilty in May.
He is facing a charge of Arson, as defined under section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009. The charges state that on April 7, 2024, in Nausori, Tikoicina intentionally and unlawfully set fire to the building of the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute along with its contents.
The case has been adjourned until September 30 for further mention.
