A police officer facing 13 sexual offence charges against his cousin has had his bail extended by the High Court in Suva. The 40-year-old, a married father of three, is facing allegations that include eight counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and one count of defilement. The accusations pertain to incidents involving his cousin, who was only 13 years old at the time.
During a court session, DPP lawyer Katarina Dugan informed Justice Dane Tuiqereqere that the necessary information and disclosures have not yet been filed and served. She explained that the delay was due to her waiting for specific documents from the accused.
The court has instructed the State to complete the required information and disclosures, while the defence lawyer, Joji Cakau, will counsel his client regarding a plea. The officer’s bail has been extended, and the case is set to resume on October 8.
