The High Court in Suva has refused bail to Apisai Madigibuli, a 27-year-old man charged with murder. During a hearing led by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere, the court examined allegations that Madigibuli fatally stabbed his pregnant wife multiple times with a kitchen knife at their apartment complex on July 28.
Justice Tuiqereqere expressed deep concerns about Madigibuli’s safety should he be released back into the community. He emphasized the severity of the charges against the accused and referred to the evidence presented, which includes CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts linking Madigibuli to the crime.
The judge noted that Madigibuli’s trial has already been scheduled to take place within the next two months, indicating a swift judicial process. The case is set to be mentioned again on December 3.
This decision reflects the court’s commitment to ensuring justice and public safety, swiftly addressing serious allegations. While the situation is distressing, the forthcoming trial offers an opportunity for the facts to be thoroughly examined, which is a fundamental aspect of the justice system.
