High Court Delays Verdict in Police Manslaughter Case

Spread the love

The High Court in Suva has deferred the sentencing of three former police officers charged with manslaughter to October 17, due to a lack of preparedness. The officers, Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, anticipating a decision. The charges arise from the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022, which occurred after he was taken to the Samabula Police Station for allegedly attacking a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence. The assault resulted in injuries that ultimately led to Tikoivalenibula’s death. The three officers are currently free on bail.
