High Court Delays Sentencing of Ex-Police Officers in Manslaughter Case

The High Court in Suva has rescheduled the sentencing of three former police officers charged with manslaughter to October 17, citing a lack of preparedness. The officers, Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, anticipating a decision. The charges are related to the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022, following his arrest at the Samabula Police Station for allegedly assaulting a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence. The injuries he sustained resulted in his death. The three officers are currently out on bail.
