High Court Delays Sentencing for Former Police Officers in Manslaughter Case

The High Court in Suva has rescheduled the sentencing of three former police officers facing manslaughter charges to October 17 due to a lack of preparedness. The officers, Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, anticipating a decision. The charges originate from the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022, after he was taken to the Samabula Police Station for reportedly assaulting a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence. The injuries sustained by Tikoivalenibula ultimately resulted in his death. The three officers are currently out on bail.
