The High Court in Suva has delayed the sentencing of three former police officers charged with manslaughter until October 17, citing a lack of readiness. Officers Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, anticipating a decision.
The charges relate to the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022. He was brought to the Samabula Police Station after reportedly assaulting a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence of alcohol. The injuries sustained during this incident ultimately led to Tikoivalenibula’s death.
The three officers are currently out on bail.
