Hibiscus Festival 2024: A Rain-Soaked Revival for Suva City

The Hibiscus Festival 2024 has breathed new life into the streets of Suva City, re-energizing the local community.

Chairman Opetaia Ravai expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all those who played a part in making the event a success. The festival wrapped up yesterday with a float procession, where queens and their teams navigated through heavy rain in Suva.

Mr. Ravai pointed out that Suva was in need of such an event, particularly following the hardships experienced during the pandemic. “We hope everyone enjoyed the week of activities,” he stated, adding, “Suva needed something like this after a five-year hiatus, and I believe it has been a positive development.”

Looking towards the future, he expressed hope for the festival’s evolution, remarking, “There’s always room for improvement, and I’m confident that the Hibiscus Festival will continue to thrive, providing even more enjoyment for everyone.”

The float procession drew hundreds of spectators to the streets, stretching from the Flea Market to Ratu Sukuna Park.

Earlier that morning, strong winds had torn the corrugated iron off a stall, raising concerns about the safety of the festival stalls. However, officials had yet to comment on the incident.
