Labasa’s midfielder Christopher Wasasala has been celebrated as a hero by fans after his standout performance led the team to victory in the inter-district championship last Saturday. Wasasala’s decisive kick ensured the Babasiga Lions triumphed over Navua, clinching a 5-3 win during the penalty shootout at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
As the team paraded through town, fans erupted into chants of Wasasala’s name. He expressed his determination for the Babasiga Lions to emerge victorious, stating he was fully confident heading into the penalty shootout. “I told the boys that we will win the championship; I was 110 percent sure I would secure a win for Labasa,” he remarked.
Wasasala acknowledged the significant role of the supporters who turned out in large numbers, saying their presence served as motivation for the team. “I would like to thank them for their support; it has given us a memorable celebration,” he said. He believes that victories like this inspire the team to perform well in larger tournaments ahead.
