Heroes in Uniform: Honoring Fiji’s Finest at the Northern Division Medal Ceremony

At the Northern Division Medal ceremony held in Labasa, Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew recognized the dedication of officers who received the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and Fiji Police Overseas Medal. In his address, he emphasized that making a positive difference in others’ lives is the highest form of recognition and spoke to the officers about their commitment to service, especially in challenging rural areas.

Acting Commissioner Chew, who began his career in the Northern Division, commended the officers for their hard work and resilience. He acknowledged the evolving challenges they face in the current criminal landscape and urged them to utilize the existing resources effectively while advocating for enhanced staffing and funding.

Mr. Udit Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, reported a revenue of $3.1 billion, highlighting the contributions of the police officers to national security operations. He stressed that national security is crucial to economic security and expressed gratitude for the officers’ roles in promoting prosperity, particularly in Labasa, which is experiencing new multi-million dollar investment projects.

Chew encouraged the officers to recognize the significance of their contributions, reiterating that their efforts are appreciated, even without public accolades. A total of eleven officers were awarded the Fiji Police Medal, forty-four received the Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and nine were honored with the Fiji Police Overseas Medal.
