Heightened Police Vigilance Ahead of Festive Season

The intensity of police operations is set to increase as the two major festivals and the two-week school holiday approach.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that several arrests have been made for the unlawful possession of illicit drugs, with officers conducting spot checks during foot patrols. “So far, three individuals have been arrested for allegedly possessing substances believed to be marijuana and methamphetamine. These substances have been sent for analysis,” ACP Driu stated.

In addition to the arrests, ACP Driu noted that officers have found several unattended and unlocked vehicles, some of which had valuables on display, making them potential targets for theft.

He also mentioned two incidents of missing children, who were successfully reunited with their families at the Hibiscus police tent located near the main civic center.

ACP Driu expressed concern about young people loitering and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant regarding their children’s whereabouts. He also warned nightclub operators not to permit minors on their premises, as officers have observed young people lingering outside the venues and have instructed them to leave.

The Fiji Police Force continues to seek public cooperation in following safety and security guidelines, urging a change in mindset to prioritize safety and security at all times.
