An increase in information sharing has led to the seizure of substances presumed to be marijuana across all five policing divisions.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu announced that drug enforcement efforts are being escalated as the festive season approaches, aiming to disrupt and destabilize the drug supply market.
Recent raids in Savusavu resulted in the arrest of five individuals who were allegedly found with dried leaves thought to be marijuana.
In the Central Division of Suva, a man in his 50s was apprehended at a carrier stand for allegedly possessing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. ACP Driu further reported that along Mead Road in Nabua, a man in his 20s was arrested after being found with numerous sachets of dried leaves and a plastic bag containing seeds believed to be marijuana, as well as a zip-lock bag with white crystals thought to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, an 18-year-old was arrested in Sigatoka town for being in possession of over 50 dried branches and loose leaves believed to be marijuana.
ACP Driu emphasized that divisional operations will also enhance school and community awareness initiatives. He stated, “It is a whole of nation approach, and our proactive arm of community policing is stepping up on awareness to minimize the impacts drugs have on families and communities.”
He also noted that the sharing of information significantly benefits law enforcement efforts aimed at reducing the supply of drugs.
