The Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF) Chairman Steven Chand has stated that the commission does not fund unemployment. “All Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) must submit their graduate employment surveys as proof that their graduates are gainfully employed or have entered entrepreneurship upon graduation and do not remain unemployed,” Mr. Chand said.

“This destination survey is now mandatory for all HEIs,” he added.

According to Mr. Chand, if any Higher Education Institution fails to meet this requirement, the HECF will withhold grants. “The quality and employability of qualifications are critically assessed,” he noted. “A strict check and balance procedure is imposed.”

Mr. Chand also mentioned that for transparency, details of disbursed funds are made available to the public, with the same information posted on their website.

“We are committed to ensuring that any investment of taxpayers’ money is justified and provides a return for the Government,” he said.
