HECF Mandates Employment Surveys for HEI Funding

Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF) chairman Steven Chand stated that the commission does not support funding that leads to unemployment.

“All Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) must submit their graduate employment surveys as proof that their graduates are either gainfully employed or have entered entrepreneurship after graduation and do not remain unemployed,” Chand said.

“This destination survey is now a mandatory requirement for all HEIs.”

Chand mentioned that failure of any Higher Education Institution to comply with this requirement would result in the HECF withholding grants.

“The quality and employability of qualifications are critically assessed,” Chand emphasized.

“A strict check and balance procedure is imposed.”

For transparency, Chand noted that details of the disbursed funds are made available to the public and published on their website.

“We want to ensure that any use of taxpayers’ dollars is justified and that there is a return on investment for the Government.”
