Fiji’s Minister for Health, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, emphasized that his responsibilities encompass the entire nation rather than just the regions where he received significant electoral support. Dr. Lalabalavu acknowledged that during the recent national elections, his campaign was primarily focused on Taveuni, a location he has not visited in several weeks.
When asked if the areas where he garnered the most votes would benefit during his ministerial term, he reaffirmed that his duty as a member of the Coalition Government is to serve all citizens of Fiji. He highlighted that the role of a minister is to take into account the health needs of the entire country.
In response to inquiries about his activities, Dr. Lalabalavu pointed out that he has visited various health facilities beyond Vanua Levu as part of addressing the challenges faced by healthcare providers. He reiterated that his commitment goes beyond just the constituency with which he is most familiar.
Furthermore, he indicated that enhancing the infrastructure of health facilities nationwide will improve the ministry’s service quality for all Fijians.
