A unique blend of spirituality and medical treatment is proving effective in helping addicts overcome their dependence on drugs and regain normalcy in their lives, according to Pastor Epi Ligairi, the national program director of Adult and Teen Challenge in Fiji.

Pastor Ligairi highlighted a success story from their center, founded by Reverend Hemraj Mangal, where they assisted a patient from St Giles Hospital. This individual, who was regarded as a complicated and complex case, made a full recovery thanks to the combination of medicinal and spiritual support provided by the program.

“We aim to bring in individuals, particularly those with challenging cases like the one from St Giles. Through the power of God and the rigorous discipleship process here, we successfully transformed his life,” said Ligairi. He firmly believes that their approach can liberate individuals from the struggles of drug addiction.

While acknowledging the importance of medical intervention, Ligairi emphasized the transformative power of faith. “We respect our medical institutions and often collaborate with them. We take students to the hospital for necessary treatments while simultaneously implementing our program to foster substantial changes in them,” he explained.

The emotional reward of this work is significant for Ligairi. He derives great satisfaction from knowing that the impact of their program extends beyond individual lives, positively affecting the entire nation of Fiji. This reinforces the idea that through compassion and a holistic approach combining faith and medicine, recovery from addiction is not only possible but can also inspire a broader social change.

In summary, the combination of spiritual guidance and medical support at the Adult and Teen Challenge center is helping individuals reclaim their lives from addiction, demonstrating hope and healing for many in Fiji. This model of treatment might serve as an inspiration for similar initiatives worldwide, showcasing the importance of addressing both the physical and spiritual aspects of addiction recovery.
