The Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro, has stated that the responsibility for monitoring teacher performance in schools lies with the heads of schools. In response to a question raised by Opposition MP Hem Chand, Radrodro emphasized that the heads of schools are qualified individuals who understand the teaching and learning plans they implement for their classes, regardless of their distance from major urban centers.
Radrodro highlighted the important role that these school leaders play in overseeing and supporting both teachers and students within their institutions. Regarding required teaching hours, he specified that early childhood educators need to fulfill a minimum of 20 hours each week, while primary school teachers are required to teach 35 hours per week, and secondary school teachers must complete 37.5 hours weekly.
Addressing concerns about the shortage of teachers in specific subjects, Radrodro noted that this issue is a legacy from Hem Chand’s tenure as head of the human resources department. He reassured that efforts are underway to address the demand for teachers in various schools.
