The US Embassy in Suva is collaborating with Basketball Fiji to host two prominent players from the renowned Harlem Globetrotters on a sports diplomacy tour of Fiji. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George will be holding a special public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 PM.
This family-friendly event is open to all and comes with free admission. The Harlem Globetrotters, an American exhibition basketball team, have captivated millions around the globe with their unique blend of athletic skills, humor, and theatrical performances. Established in 1926, the team has become a legendary symbol of basketball excellence, recognized for their creative ball-handling, trick shots, and engaging audience interactions.
Over the years, the Globetrotters have participated in over 26,000 exhibition games across 124 countries and territories, often acting as goodwill ambassadors. This tour is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy initiative, which leverages the universal enthusiasm for sports to foster connections among people, cultures, and nations. While in Fiji and Nauru, the players will visit schools and engage with basketball enthusiasts throughout both countries.
At the Yat Sen event, participants will have the chance to witness Bull and Torch showcase their basketball talents, take part in interactive games, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ signature blend of skill and comedy. This presents a remarkable opportunity to connect with these exceptional athletes, who demonstrate the ability of sports to inspire and bring people together.
