The U.S. Embassy in Suva, in collaboration with Basketball Fiji, is hosting two renowned players from the iconic Harlem Globetrotters on a sports diplomacy tour of Fiji. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George will hold a public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.

This family-friendly event is free to attend and welcomes everyone. The Harlem Globetrotters, an American exhibition basketball team, are celebrated for their unique blend of athleticism, humor, and theatrical performances. Since their founding in 1926, the team has become an emblem of basketball excellence and entertainment, known for their creative ball-handling, trick shots, and engaging with audiences.

Throughout their history, the Globetrotters have played over 26,000 exhibition games across 124 countries, often acting as goodwill ambassadors. Bullard, famous for his impressive dunks and captivating personality, and George, a Guinness World Record holder, will also be visiting Nauru following their brief stay in Fiji.

This initiative is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy program, which uses the universal appeal of sports to foster connections among people, cultures, and nations. During their visit to Fiji and Nauru, Bull and Torch will engage with school students and basketball enthusiasts in both countries.

At the Yat Sen event, attendees can look forward to watching Bull and Torch showcase their basketball skills, engage in interactive games, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ distinctive blend of skill and comedy. This event presents a rare chance to connect with two exceptional athletes who demonstrate the inspiring and unifying power of sports.
