Local boxer Ubayd Haider has promised boxing fans in Fiji a spectacular performance as he prepares to face China’s Runqi Zhao for the IBO Asia Pacific Superweight title. The highly anticipated match will take place this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, as part of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion event.
In a recent interview, Haider expressed confidence in his training and readiness for the bout. “I have trained really hard for this fight, as if I were facing a world champion tomorrow, so I am very positive and 100 percent sure that this title will remain here in Fiji,” he stated.
Haider noted that his motivation is heightened by personal differences with his opponent’s coach, as well as comments made by Zhao on social media. He is eager to gauge the skills of his opponent. “You can expect the best version of me on fight night. I haven’t felt this nervous before a match in a long time. But as the fight approaches and we stand face to face, those nerves will fade away, and I will focus on delivering my punches,” Haider said.
Event promoter Freddy Chand emphasized the significance of the IBO Asia Pacific Superweight title fight for Haider. “This is a great opportunity for the people of Fiji to see Ubayd perform on his home ground. There are three international IBO titles and one local title at stake,” he remarked.
Chand confirmed that there will be a total of ten bouts, all sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF). He also expressed gratitude to the chairman and revealed that sports icon Sonny Bill Williams will serve as the chief guest for the event.
