Ubayd Haider is gearing up for what he describes as the most significant challenge of his boxing career, as he prepares to face China’s Runqi Zhou for the vacant IBO Oceania-Orient featherweight title. The match is scheduled for October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Haider has just resumed training after a long break and is committed to fully preparing himself for the bout. “I’ll make sure to leave no stone unturned in my preparation,” he stated. He acknowledged the challenge he faces due to the limited number of sparring partners available in Fiji, which makes solo training his primary focus.
Regarding Zhou, Haider noted, “He is very tough, and I will have to match him in the ring.” He added that while Zhou has an impressive work rate, he believes the Chinese boxer lacks significant knockout power and is primarily skilled in boxing technique.
Haider anticipates a grueling contest, suggesting that both fighters are likely to suffer injuries during the fight. “It will be a bloodbath as both of us will have broken noses and cuts around our eyes,” he warned. He also recognized the strength of Zhou’s training team, which includes world champions like the Maloney twins, Alex Winwood, and Bruno Tarimo.
Despite public skepticism regarding his chances, Haider is determined to prove his critics wrong. “I’m going to prepare myself well, and we’ll have a good fight,” he affirmed. “Like every other fighter, I will be coming for victory.” He plans to leverage his boxing footwork and height advantage to secure a win.
Haider expressed gratitude to South Pacific Boxing promotions and Amarok Accessories for their support as he heads into this crucial match.
