Gun Theft Shock: Fiji Man Facing Serious Charges

A 24-year-old man has been placed in custody following accusations of stealing a firearm from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. His bail application is scheduled to be heard today.

Sitiveni Tavakece appeared in Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing two theft charges and one count of possession of a firearm without a license.

Tavakece is alleged to have unlawfully taken a 9mm pistol, valued at $1,500, on September 25. He is also accused of stealing three souvenir medals from the military forces.

Reports indicate that the state plans to file a third charge against him today. The case has been adjourned for further mention at 9:30 am. Bail has been denied.
