Guardians Urged to Prioritize Children’s Future at School Parade

The chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, emphasized the importance of parental involvement at a passing-out parade for students of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School yesterday. He urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s well-being over personal interests, highlighting their crucial role in shaping the future of society.

During his address, Ratu Seruvakula noted the foundational work done by teachers and members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and stressed the responsibility that falls on families to support children’s growth until they can stand on their own. He pointed out the numerous challenges children face today, many of which can significantly affect their development without their understanding.

He expressed concern about the potential for children to inherit societal issues, such as sexual violation, drug abuse, and child trafficking, stressing the need for proactive parenting. Ratu Seruvakula called on parents to set aside their personal interests and social activities, such as spending time with friends or partaking in yaqona drinking, to focus on their children’s upbringing.

He underscored the moral obligation of parents to provide the best upbringing they can and questioned whether they want their children to grow up in a society characterized by injustice, disinterest, selfishness, and lack of discipline.
