The Director of Public Prosecutions has announced that a 55-year-old man has been charged with attempting to cause serious harm to his 5-year-old stepdaughter. The man is accused of injuring the child by striking her back with a cane knife.
According to the ODPP’s Serious Crime (Non-Sexual Violence Offences) Statistics for August 2024, a total of 18 individuals were charged with 28 non-sexual violence offences during the month. Of these charges, there were 14 victims, with six incidents involving related parties.
In a separate case, a 48-year-old man faces murder charges for allegedly stabbing his 76-year-old father multiple times, leading to the father’s death. Additionally, a 33-year-old man has been charged with intending to cause grievous harm to his 34-year-old partner, reportedly injuring her with a spade and also violating a domestic violence restraining order.
Another incident involved a 34-year-old man charged with both grievous harm and attempted arson after allegedly injuring his 39-year-old brother with a spade and attempting to set his brother’s house ablaze.
A 25-year-old man was charged with attempting to cause serious harm to a 48-year-old man, reportedly after an altercation where he punched and kicked the victim over a disagreement. Furthermore, a 44-year-old man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to his de facto partner, along with aggravated burglary and criminal intimidation. During these burglaries, various items were stolen, including from homes, shops, garages, and through street muggings.
In another case, four men aged 24, 34, 20, and 19 were charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly robbing a 14-year-old boy of his mobile phone.
Finally, a 31-year-old man has been charged with illegal cultivation and possession of illicit drugs after allegedly growing 94 cannabis plants and having 3068.3 grams of cannabis sativa in his possession. Additionally, a 30-year-old man faces charges for cultivating 347 cannabis plants.
