A “Stop Work Order” remains in effect for the Great Han Residential Development located on Princess Road, as confirmed by the Department of Environment. The department became aware on September 5, 2024, that the Suva City Council had lifted the order on the development. In response to this information, the Department conducted an investigation and engaged with relevant parties to assess whether the lifting of the order aligned with its own guidelines.
It was found that Great Han had not adhered to the Suva City Council’s decision to lift the order, which stated that the development could only proceed if the requirements set by the Department of Environment were fulfilled. Consequently, the department followed due processes and reissued a stop work order on September 24, as outlined in Section 43 of the Environment Management Act 2005.
