The reconstruction of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting complex, known as Vale ni Bose, is making significant progress. The iTaukei Trust Fund Board announced that the first phase of construction has been completed, and work on the second phase has commenced.
Practical completion is expected by mid-2025, with all construction activities meticulously planned to ensure deadlines are met while upholding high quality and safety standards. The Trust Fund Board stated that the project team is dedicated to executing the second phase effectively and achieving each milestone as scheduled.
The collaboration among contractors, architects, and stakeholders has been smooth, with regular updates and progress monitoring to keep the project on track. The previous GCC complex was destroyed in a fire in 2020, and an insurance claim of $6 million has been secured for the reconstruction efforts.
Phase two aims to improve the functionality and design of the facility, aligning with its intended purpose. The board expressed confidence that the timely completion of this project will enhance the space’s offerings and add significant value not only for the meetings of the Great Council of Chiefs but also for its future users. The construction is being led by Pacific Building Solutions.
