Grassroots Glory: Ba Rugby’s Bright Future

Pastor Gaby Kautoga, who serves as the secretary of the Ba Rugby Union, is deeply engaged in developing grassroots rugby, particularly at the primary school level, leveraging his background as a teacher.

This season, Pastor Gaby dedicated significant time to Koronubu Sanatan Primary School, collaborating with head coach Krishneel Kumar to prepare Kaji children from diverse backgrounds for the Ba West kids rugby tournament.

“Their results were quite extraordinary,” Kautoga expressed. “They secured victories in the under 14 Indo boys category, the U14 mixed girls, and the U14 mixed boys competitions. Additionally, our U10 girls team finished as runners-up in their division.”

He emphasized that these achievements indicate a promising future for rugby in Ba. “Our province is truly progressive, known for being the birthplace of rugby in Fiji back in 1884, home to the country’s first and oldest rugby ground at Rarawai Mill, and featuring Bukuya, which boasts the highest rugby ground in Fiji.”

Kautoga highlighted the community’s inclusivity, stating, “Two of our key principles are ‘inclusivity’ and ‘education,’ so we are naturally thrilled about Koronubu Sanatan’s remarkable success.”
