The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations recently conducted inspections across Viti Levu, examining the minimum employment terms and conditions as well as occupational health and safety standards at the Grace Road Company (GRC). The findings from this inspection indicated several violations of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.
Minister Agni Deo Singh emphasized the importance of these regulations, stating that the law applies universally to both local and migrant workers. He assured the public that the Ministry is dedicated to ensuring compliance with employment laws by all employers. Following the discoveries made during the inspections, the Ministry plans to initiate further investigations into the reported issues.
Minister Singh urged GRC to rectify these breaches and ensure that all workers receive their rightful compensation. This commitment reflects a broader goal of enhancing workplace conditions and safeguarding the rights of employees in Fiji.
This situation serves as a reminder of the government’s proactive approach to workplace safety and employee rights. By addressing these concerns, there is potential for improvement in the work environment, leading to better job satisfaction and productivity in the long run. It highlights the importance of compliance and accountability, which ultimately benefits both workers and employers alike.
