The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has revealed that recent inspections were carried out regarding the minimum employment terms and conditions as well as occupational health and safety standards at Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu. Minister Agni Deo Singh reported that the findings from these inspections indicated violations of both the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.
Minister Singh affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to investigating the identified issues further. He emphasized that Fiji’s employment laws apply equally to both local and migrant workers, highlighting the importance of compliance from employers. The Minister urged Grace Road to adhere to legal standards and ensure that all workers receive fair compensation for their work.
This focus on upholding labor rights reflects a proactive approach to improving workplace conditions in Fiji, fostering a more equitable working environment for everyone involved. As investigations continue, it is hoped that necessary changes will be implemented, ensuring a fairer workplace for all employees.
In summary, the government is taking important steps to address labor rights violations at GRC while calling for accountability to ensure that workers are treated fairly and safely.
