Govind Park’s $8.3M Makeover: A New Era for Sports in Ba!

A contract worth $8.3 million has been awarded for the second phase of the redevelopment of Govind Park in Ba. The announcement was made by Maciu Nalumisa, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, during a groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday.

“Phase two has a total contract value of $8,343,383.69 VIP, and is expected to be completed within the next six to eight months,” said Minister Nalumisa. He also urged the Ba Town Council to ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of the park once the redevelopment is completed.

The project will introduce modern amenities, enhanced seating, improved accessibility, and increased safety measures, aiming to elevate the experience for athletes, spectators, and community members. Minister Nalumisa highlighted the importance of reinvesting the revenue generated from the facility back into its maintenance and future enhancements.

“The income earned from this facility should be directed towards its upkeep and potential improvements,” he stated. “This may involve the future installation of floodlights and other amenities to ensure Govind Park remains a premier venue for sports and community events. This will help secure the longevity and sustainability of this iconic facility for generations.”

The Minister also expressed gratitude towards the iTaukei Land Trust Board for their approval to move forward with the phase two development. He looks forward to the work that contractors Western Builders Ltd and Heritage Fiji will undertake, anticipating the grand opening of a modern stadium that reflects collective achievements.

“To the contractors, Western Builders Ltd and Heritage Fiji, we eagerly await the grand opening of this modern stadium, which will symbolize our shared accomplishments,” he remarked.

Upon completion of phase two, the new grandstand at Govind Park will have a capacity of 9,000, excluding the embankment that will be addressed in phase three.
