There are currently 4,680 individuals with disabilities registered in the Western Division under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. This information was shared by Clement Dari, the acting principal welfare officer West, during the Annual General Meeting of the Western Disabled People’s Association held on Saturday.

Dari noted that nationally, a total of 39,878 individuals receive support through the Social Protection program, which encompasses disability allowances and senior pension schemes. He emphasized that 12 percent of this budget is dedicated to individuals with disabilities.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing services for people with disabilities. “The District Council of Disabled Persons is now established in every town within the Western Division, and there are dedicated disability officers in every welfare office,” he stated.

Mr. Dari encouraged members of the Western Disabled People’s Association to collaborate on community awareness initiatives, highlighting their willingness to work together for a more integrated approach. He also urged anyone aware of individuals in their community who have not yet received disability assistance to reach out for support.
