The government has announced its decision to fully subsidize the upcoming bus fare increases next month for all students holding blue and yellow bus cards. Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, stated that the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has completed its review of current bus fares and has developed a new fare calculation method in collaboration with the Fiji Bus Operators Association.
Gavoka explained that the FCCC has recommended aligning student fares with adult fares, setting the regulated student fare at 50 percent of the adult fare across the board. He confirmed that the government will maintain full subsidies for students with blue bus cards under the transport assistance program. Additionally, the government will also cover the 50 percent increase in fares for students using yellow cards.
