The Cabinet has decided to fully support the upcoming increase in bus fares starting next month for all students holding blue and yellow bus cards. Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka announced that the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has completed its review of current bus fares and has established a new fare calculation system in collaboration with the Fiji Bus Operators Association.
Under this new system, the FCCC has proposed that student fares align with adult fares, with the regulated student fare set at 50 percent of the adult fare at every stage. Gavoka confirmed that the government will continue its full subsidy for students with blue cards under the transport assistance scheme, and will also provide a subsidy for the 50 percent fare increase for students using yellow cards.
