The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized the critical water challenges facing the country, asserting the Coalition Government’s commitment to fully addressing the issue. In a recent Parliament session, Tuisawau highlighted that the government’s efforts extend beyond infrastructure to encompass the impacts of climate change and recurring dry spells.
To combat these water issues, the government has implemented various mitigating actions. Tuisawau noted the introduction of water rationing and scheduling programs designed to help communities manage water shortages.
He also mentioned the free water tank initiative, which has been rolled out to several rural and affected areas, and remains available to residents. This scheme allows individuals to store water during shortages. Additionally, the construction of temporary cofferdams has been initiated as an interim solution to further aid the situation. Tuisawau confirmed that this represents an ongoing effort alongside long-term strategies to secure water availability.
