Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad has announced that a meeting is scheduled for next week to address the ongoing challenges faced by the University of the South Pacific (USP). Despite this, the Deputy Prime Minister has emphasized that the government will not get involved in the university’s internal operations.
Prasad stated, “Next week we will meet to discuss how we can resolve, if there are any issues.” He clarified that the government would not interfere with the governance structure or management decisions of the institution. He mentioned that government representatives are on the USP Council, and any concerns regarding the university will be communicated through those representatives.
In related news, Ministry of Employment permanent secretary Maritino Nemani responded to inquiries about the ministry’s plans to mediate between USP management and staff unions. He confirmed, “Yes, due process is being applied.”
