Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the cabinet will present a paper regarding the ‘Investigation’ or ‘Commission of Inquiry’ into allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai. In a press briefing, Rabuka explained that the document will outline the ‘Terms of Reference’ and objectives for the Commission for the cabinet’s consideration.
Rabuka emphasized that the matter pertains to the credibility of the government as well as its institutions and systems, which need to be addressed. He acknowledged that while the past cannot be changed, the government can ensure that such actions do not recur.
“If anyone has violated regulations or laws, they will be appropriately dealt with,” Rabuka stated. Addressing rumors about Puleiwai being targeted by government agents, he insisted that such actions would not come from his administration.
Moreover, Rabuka encouraged Puleiwai to contact the police if she feels threatened in Fiji, assuring her that she is welcome to return to the country. He pointed out that a report referencing her claims was withdrawn by ABC due to concerns about its credibility. The Prime Minister reassured Fijians of their safety.
