Ulamila Buto Vosa, a widow and mother of six from Delakado Village in Tailevu, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Coalition Government for its timely support with the $200 back-to-school assistance. This aid has come as a lifeline to her and many other struggling families in Fiji, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
Life has been challenging for Vosa since the passing of her husband. As the sole provider for her family, she manages a small canteen and livestock farm to make ends meet. The financial burden of getting her children ready for school felt overwhelming, but the government assistance has lifted some of that weight. Vosa remarked, “This support came just when we needed it most. It means my children can go to school prepared, and I can focus on keeping our household running. I’m truly thankful.”
The $200 initiative is specifically designed to help parents cover essential school expenses, including uniforms, shoes, bags, and stationery. Families in similar situations to Vosa’s, such as Julia Tikoenavuli from Moala Island, have also shared stories of relief thanks to this government support. Tikoenavuli, a mother of eight, highlighted how the financial aid has made it easier for her to manage educational costs for her children, reinforcing the importance of government programs in supporting families across the nation.
Moreover, Melaia Qalobula from Naduri also emphasized the crucial role of this assistance in securing a good education for her children and breaking the cycle of poverty within her family. These narratives showcase a broader trend in Fiji where government initiatives, like back-to-school aid, provide significant relief and foster hope among parents striving for better futures for their children.
The Coalition Government’s commitment to facilitating educational access and support for families during financially constraining times underscores a hopeful outlook for many. As these initiatives continue to positively impact the lives of Fijians, they not only pave the way for children’s success but also strengthen community resilience and foster a vision for a brighter future.
