A driver of a government vehicle was arrested yesterday morning for drunk driving, an incident that has led to a strong reaffirmation from the Fiji Police Force regarding their commitment to uphold the law without bias.
Following a tip-off, police in Nasinu intercepted the government vehicle in Makoi after it was alleged the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Upon being taken into custody, the suspect was tested and found to exceed the legal alcohol limit.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci confirmed that the vehicle has been seized, and the relevant Permanent Secretary within the Ministry has been notified about the incident.
To enhance accountability, A/DCP Raikaci stated that traffic officers will be conducting random checks on government vehicle drivers, including those operating police vehicles, to prevent misuse of public assets. This initiative aims to ensure that all drivers are treated equally under the law, reinforcing the principle that no one is above the law.
This incident not only demonstrates the enforcement of legal regulations but also serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving, especially for those in public service. It is a positive step towards ensuring integrity and accountability in government operations.
In summary, the Fiji Police Force is taking necessary actions to uphold the law without exceptions, aiming to foster a culture of responsibility and respect for the regulations that govern vehicle operation.
