The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has demonstrated immense self-belief as they progress through the Vodafone Deans Trophy tournament. This was highlighted during an interview with GHS principal Iliesa Parker on SUNsports.
The team achieved a remarkable upset by defeating the heavily favored Ratu Kadavulevu School with a score of 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff is focusing on improving specific areas before the semi-finals.
He expressed concern over some players dealing with minor injuries and is hopeful for their recovery ahead of Saturday’s game. Parker praised the team’s performance against RKS, emphasizing that this marks GHS’s first time reaching the Deans semi-finals in any grade, thus making history.
The support from parents, alumni, and school management has been a significant boost for the team. Parker acknowledged the effective coaching staff that has guided the players, asserting the importance of discipline both in school and on the field. He mentioned that the players are excited about the prospect of competing in the stadium for the first time on Saturday.
The team will face Marist, a champion opponent they have yet to encounter this season. Parker expressed pride in facing the defending champions and urged all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue in a show of solidarity.
He invited Gospel High fans to come out in full force to cheer on the team and extended his best wishes to all competing schools in the semi-finals.
