Gospel High School has advanced to the Vodafone Super Deans semi-finals for the first time following an impressive performance in the under-15 quarter-finals. The Samabula-based team secured a narrow 12-7 victory over Ratu Kadavulevu School at Bidesi Park in Suva.
This success marks a remarkable journey for Gospel, which started by achieving third place in their zone, overcame challenges during a tough playoff match in Labasa, and is now set to compete in the semi-finals next weekend.
Head coach Epineri Koroiveibau expressed pride in the team’s preparations over the past two weeks, emphasizing their commitment to playing clean, hard rugby. “We moved from tier 2 to tier 1, progressed through the playoffs, and now we find ourselves in the semis next week,” he stated.
Koroiveibau acknowledged the significance of this milestone for the school. He noted the tradition of Ratu Kadavulevu School reaching the Deans quarters and semi-finals but encouraged his players to believe in their abilities as long as they dedicated themselves to hard work and enjoyment of the game.
The support from the school community, parents, and alumni has been immensely encouraging, according to Koroiveibau, who appreciates the hard work of the coaching staff that has led the boys to showcase their skills in the match against RKS.
In other under-15 quarter-final results, Queen Victoria School triumphed over Natabua High School with a score of 12-0, Suva Grammar School defeated Holy Cross College 37-5, and Marist Brothers High School edged out Sigatoka Methodist 17-13.
