Gospel High School Rugby Team Makes History in Deans Trophy Semifinals!

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has been fueled by self-belief during their Vodafone Deans Trophy campaign. In an interview with SUNsports, GHS principal Iliesa Parker highlighted the team’s recent successes, including a significant upset against the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School, which ended in a 12-7 victory in the quarterfinal last Saturday.

Parker noted that coaches are focusing on areas for improvement as the team prepares for the semi-finals. He expressed concern regarding some players who are dealing with minor injuries, but he is hopeful they will recover in time for the upcoming match.

The victory over RKS marks a historic achievement for GHS, as it is the first time the school has reached the Deans semi-finals in any grade. The support from parents, alumni, and the school management has been instrumental in the team’s success.

Parker acknowledged the dedication of the coaching staff and emphasized the importance of discipline among the players both in school and during training. He mentioned the players’ excitement about playing in a stadium for the first time and the opportunity to face a renowned team like Marist, the defending champions, whom they have not encountered this season.

In closing, Parker encouraged all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors—pink, white, and blue—on Saturday and invited fans to attend and support the team while also wishing the best of luck to other schools in the semi-finals.
