The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team’s self-belief has been a key factor in their successful Vodafone Deans Trophy campaign. In an interview, GHS principal Iliesa Parker highlighted the team’s impressive performance, particularly their notable victory against the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School with a score of 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday.
Parker explained that the coaching staff has been focusing on areas that need improvement as they prepare for the semi-finals. However, there are concerns about some players dealing with minor injuries, and they hope for a quick recovery by Saturday.
This achievement is historic for GHS, as it marks the first time the school will compete in the Deans semi-finals in any grade. Parker praised the players’ performance against RKS and emphasized the robust support system they have from parents, alumni, and the school administration.
He expressed gratitude for the dedicated coaching staff responsible for guiding the team, reminding players about the importance of discipline both in school and during training sessions. The players are particularly excited about the opportunity to play at the stadium, facing a strong team like Marist, who they have not encountered this season.
Parker extended an invitation to all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors—pink, white, and blue—on Saturday to show their support. He also wished good luck to all other schools participating in the semi-finals.
