The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team is driven by self-belief as they progress in the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition. This sentiment was expressed by GHS principal Iliesa Parker in an interview with SUNsports.
GHS achieved a significant upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School with a score of 12-7 in the quarter-finals last Saturday. Parker mentioned that the coaching team is focusing on improving key areas in preparation for the semi-finals. However, there are concerns regarding some players who are dealing with minor injuries, and the hope is that they will recover in time for Saturday’s match.
Parker praised his team’s performance against RKS, highlighting that this marks the first time GHS has reached the semi-finals of the Deans competition in any grade, making history for the school. He noted the strong support from parents, alumni, and school management, which has contributed to the team’s success.
The principal is pleased with the coaching staff and emphasized the importance of discipline among players both in school and during games. The players are eager to participate in their first match at a stadium this Saturday and look forward to facing a champion side like Marist, whom they have not encountered this season.
Parker expressed that it is an honor to compete against Marist, the defending champions. He encouraged all GHS rugby supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue in support of the team and extended his best wishes to the other schools participating in the semi-finals.
