The Vodafone Deans Trophy campaign has been fueled by self-belief for the Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team. This was highlighted by GHS principal Iliesa Parker during his interview with SUNsports.
The team recently achieved a remarkable upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff has been focusing on improvement areas as the team prepares for the semi-finals, expressing concern over some players dealing with minor injuries, and hoping they can recover in time for Saturday’s match.
“It’s a historic moment for GHS, as this marks the first time they are competing in the Deans semi-finals at any level,” Parker remarked, praising his team’s performance against RKS. He also mentioned the strong support system from parents, alumni, and school management.
The principal emphasized the importance of discipline both in school and on the field, urging players to concentrate on their game preparation. The players are particularly excited to make their first appearance in the stadium on Saturday, where they will face the champions Marist, a team they have not yet encountered this season.
Parker expressed the honor of playing against defending champions Marist and encouraged all GHS fans to wear the school’s pink, white, and blue colors in support of the team. “I urge the Gospel High supporters to come out in numbers and stand by the boys, and I also wish good luck to all the other teams in the semi-finals,” he stated.
