Self-belief has driven the Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team throughout their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. In an interview with SUNsports, GHS principal Iliesa Parker highlighted the team’s recent success, particularly their surprising 12-7 victory over the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School in the quarterfinals last Saturday.
“Our coaches have been focusing on specific areas for improvement as we approach the semi-finals,” Parker noted. He expressed concern over a number of players dealing with minor injuries, hoping for their recovery in time for Saturday’s match.
Parker praised his players for their outstanding performance against RKS, mentioning that this marks the first time Gospel High School has reached the Deans semi-finals in any grade, creating a historic achievement for the institution. He acknowledged the strong support from parents, alumni, and school management.
The principal stated that the school is fortunate to have a dedicated coaching staff leading the team. “Players have been encouraged to maintain discipline both in school and on the field and to concentrate on their game during preparations,” Parker added, emphasizing the players’ excitement about competing in a stadium for the first time on Saturday.
He remarked on the significance of facing a champion team like Marist, whom they have not played this season. “We are truly honored to compete against Marist, the defending champions,” he said.
Parker also called upon all Gospel High supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue this Saturday, inviting fans to come out in large numbers to cheer for the team. He extended best wishes to all other schools competing in the semi-finals.
