Self-belief has been the major motivator for the Under-15 rugby team from Gospel High School during their Vodafone Deans Trophy journey. This was highlighted by the school’s principal, Iliesa Parker, in an interview with SUNsports.
Gospel High School achieved a significant upset by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday. Parker noted that the coaching staff is focusing on a few areas for improvement as they prepare for the semi-finals. However, he expressed concern over several players dealing with minor injuries and hopes they will recover in time for Saturday’s match.
Parker praised his team’s performance against RKS, marking a historic moment as it is the first time Gospel High School has reached the Deans semi-final stage across any division. He mentioned the robust support system from parents, alumni, and school management.
According to Parker, the school is fortunate to have a dedicated coaching staff leading the team. He emphasized the importance of discipline both on the field and in school for the players, encouraging them to concentrate during their preparations. The players are excited about the prospect of playing at the stadium for the first time on Saturday.
They will face a championship-caliber team like Marist, which Gospel High has yet to play this season. Parker expressed honor in competing against Marist, the defending champions. He urged all Gospel High supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue on Saturday and encouraged them to come out in large numbers to support the team. He also extended best wishes to all other schools participating in the semi-finals.
