The Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa was alive with excitement as it hosted its weekly Stableford tournament yesterday, sponsored by Mali Pest Control. Seventy golfers participated, showcasing their skills in a friendly competition that welcomed participants of all ages.
One of the golfers, Alvin Nair, noted the high level of play and credited the beautiful weather for creating a perfect environment for the tournament. “There’s a lot of members who have turned up since morning because the weather is fine and it’s more playable,” he remarked. Nair emphasized the camaraderie among golfers, highlighting the social aspect that follows the competition. “It’s pretty easy, because all the golfers play and when we come back to the courthouse, it’s basically a friendship and social activities that follow,” he explained.
Encouraging the youth, Nair urged young aspiring golfers to engage in the sport and join tournaments like this. He mentioned the active participation of junior golfers and the importance of fostering their involvement: “We do encourage them all the time to come and attend.”
Looking ahead, the club is set to host the East vs West tournament today, attracting seasoned golfers from across the country for yet another exciting day of golf.
This event not only showcases the sport but also forges connections within the golfing community, highlighting the spirit of encouragement among players of different generations. The ongoing support for young golfers suggests a hopeful future for the sport in Fiji, with the passion for golf continuing to thrive.
