“Golden Glove Glory: Nadi’s Rising Star Shines in Giants Battle!”

Nadi goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua has earned the Golden Glove award for his exceptional performance during the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice-Cream Battle of the Giants held in Suva.

At 26 years old, Biuvanua, a police officer, played a vital role in leading the Jetsetters to the tournament’s final in his first appearance with the team after transferring from Lautoka during the mid-season window. Throughout the tournament, he conceded only three goals, all of which were against the Blues—one during the group stages and two in the final match.

Coach Raj Dayal commended Biuvanua’s efforts, stating that he deserves an opportunity to join the national team. “He was fantastic in this tournament. He put his body on the line for the team on numerous occasions. He is currently the best goalkeeper in the country and should definitely make the national team,” Dayal remarked.

He acknowledged that the team had faced challenges in the goalkeeping position during the Fiji FACT but noted that Biuvanua’s addition had led to notable improvements. “The results are evident as we reached the final of the BOG and just fell short,” he added.

Dayal also expressed appreciation for his team’s overall performance and announced plans to build on their success in the upcoming DPL matches and the Inter District Championship in Lautoka.
