The US Embassy in Suva, in collaboration with Basketball Fiji, is hosting two star players from the renowned Harlem Globetrotters for a sports diplomacy tour in Fiji. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George will be holding a public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 PM to 7 PM.
This family-friendly event is open to everyone, and admission is free. The Harlem Globetrotters, a famous exhibition basketball team from America, have entertained millions around the globe with their exceptional combination of athleticism, humor, and performance art. Established in 1926, the team has become a legendary representation of basketball excellence and showmanship, famous for their innovative ball-handling, trick shots, and interactive audience engagement.
Throughout the years, the Globetrotters have participated in over 26,000 exhibition matches in 124 countries, often acting as goodwill ambassadors. Bullard, celebrated for his impressive dunks and engaging personality, along with George, a Guinness World Record holder, will continue their journey to Nauru following their brief visit to Fiji.
This tour is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy program, designed to leverage the universal appeal of sports to foster connections among people, cultures, and nations. During their visit to Fiji and Nauru, they will interact with students and basketball enthusiasts across both countries.
At the Yat Sen event, attendees will witness Bull and Torch showcasing their basketball skills, take part in interactive activities, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ signature blend of talent and comedy.
